Advisor–Group Corporate Affairs of Manipal Education & Medical Group

Abhay Jain is the Advisor–Group Corporate Affairs of Manipal Education & Medical Group. He is currently Member of the Board of Jain University, Bangalore. He was a Member of the Governing Body at Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore from 2004 to June 2009. He was also a Member of the Governing Body at Malaviya National Institute of Technology, Jaipur from 2004 to 2010.


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Science from St. Joseph’s College of Arts and Science, Bangalore University
  • Bachelor’s Degree in General Law from Sri. Jagadguru Renukacharya College of Law, Bangalore University
  • Post Graduate Diploma in Management from St Joseph’s College of Business Administration, Bangalore University.

He was actively involved in development work at the grass root level in Rajasthan from 2004 to 2008, has served as Trustee and President for Bangalore Sports Club from 1994 till 2006 and is serving as Trustee and Secretary of the Learning Society from 2001 till date.


Abhay Jain is the Partner / Promoter Director for Ambika Petrochem Pvt. Ltd., Shyam Agencies (CS of Gail India Ltd.,) and M/s Srinidhi Finvest Pvt. Ltd.

He was the Vice President (South India) of M/s. Hindustan Gas & Industries Ltd., and M/s Essel Mining and Industries Ltd., in the Aditya Birla Group from 1987 to 1996. He was also the Managing Partner of Mills Manufacturers Textiles Corporation (MMTC) and Maharaja Silk House (family owned business) from 1980 to 1987.


Abhay has a keen interest in social development through removal of illiteracy and promotion of primary education. In 2000, he helped set up the Akshaya Patra Foundation, Bangalore - a mid-day meal program for school going children. Today, the mid-day meal program feeds over 1.3 million children each day in 8,500 government schools across nine Indian states - Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Chattisgarh, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Odisha, Assam and Uttar Pradesh and New Delhi.

This program aims to feed 5 million children each day by 2020. This initiative has become the largest mid-day meal program in the world.
