Dr. Neerja Vyas, Assistant Professor, School of Humanities & Social Sciences, Manipal University Jaipur presented research paper in the Conference titled "Slices of Everyday Lives" organized at University of Cambridge, United Kingdom from 19th and 20th September 2019.

About the conference

The ‘Slices of Everyday Lives’ conference investigated and generated novel understandings of spatial cultural differences and new awareness of everyday life across cultures. The conference has provided an opportunity to discuss issues around the analysis of the everyday in visual culture. In addition, the event explored the creation of innovative technological methods for comparative approaches to the study of the everyday, such as film databases and image-recognition technologies as well as the preservation and dissemination of the everyday in museums and galleries. By bringing together various disciplines engaged in the comparative study of the everyday, the conference has stimulated an exchange of methodologies and has helped to foster interdisciplinary collaboration.

This platform served as a great opportunity to engage and network with the most celebrated researchers in the area like Ben Highmore (Professor of Cultural Studies, University of Sussex), Ian Christie (Professor of Film and Media History, Birkbeck, University of London), Cécile De Bary (Professor in Literature, Arts and Cinema, Université Paris Diderot) and others.

About the Paper

Paper titled “Exploring the Ordinary of the Extraordinary: A Study of Indian Biopics” and deliberated on the peculiar way of visually representing extraordinary lives. It is an attempt to identify the spatial and temporal location where the everyday life, which is patterned to confirm to the hegemonic social structures, is problematized and deviates from the ordinary way or normal code of conduct. The findings of the paper have led to the comprehension of the socio-political and economic dimensions of the space that is transformed by the protagonists.
