NCC (National Cadets Corps) was formally inaugurated on 15 July 1948. NCC is a youth development movement. That has enormous potential for nation building. The NCC provides opportunities to the youth of the country for their all-round development while inculcating a sense of duty, commitment, dedication, punctuality, discipline, and moral values so that they become able leaders and useful citizens. The NCC provides exposure to the cadets in a wide range of activities with a distinct emphasis on social services discipline and adventure training. The NCC is open to all regular students of University and colleges on a voluntary basis. The students of NCC have no liability for active military service.

An Air Wing Troop of NCC is active in the Manipal University Jaipur which includes Senior Division and Senior Wing cadets. Cadets enrolled are given institutional training and can participate in adventure activities, community development programmes, various national level and annual training camps, and cultural activities etc.


Objectives of NCC

  • To develop character, commandership, discipline, leadership, secular outlook, spirit of adventure and the ideals of selfless service amongst the youth of the country
  • To create a human resource of organised, trained, and motivated youth to provide leadership in all walks of life and always available for the service of the nation
  • To provide a suitable environment to motivate the youth to take up a career in the Armed Forces

N.C.C. is a dynamic organization of young boys and girls all over the India. It plays an important role in inculcating values of character, patriotism, unity, and selfless services amongst the youth. It helps in shaping the youth into discipline responsible citizen of India. NCC provides a platform for self-development and helps to channelise their energy and potential towards nation building.


N.C.C. has three wings Army, Navy and Air Force.

NCC was conceived in 1917 when India Defence Act was promulgated with an object of making up the deficiencies in the Armed Forces by raising the University Corps. In 1920, with the passage of India Territorial Act, University Corps was replaced by University Training Corps. In 1942, this Corps was rechristened University Officers Training Corps. In 1946, a committee under Pandit H N Kunzru was set up at the behest of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru to formulate the establishment of an organisation capable of training and motivating the youth of the country to become better citizens and leaders in all walks of life.

Consequently, the National Cadet Corps came into being on July 15, 1948 with the promulgation of the NCC Act XXXI of 1948. NCC was placed under the Ministry of Defence, Government of India. with the following aims:


(a) To develop character, comradeship, discipline, leadership, secular outlook, spirit of adventure, sportsmanship, and ideals of selfless service among the youth of the country.


(b) To create a human resource of organized, trained and motivated youth, to provide leadership in all walks of life and always be available for the service of the nation.


(c) To provide a suitable environment to motivate the youth to take up a career in the Armed Forces.


NCC Pared at unit (1 Raj Air SQN NCC Jaipur):

1.      Every Wednesday from July to January morning 07:00hrs to 12:00hrs approximately 4 to 5 hrs. in the morning.

2.      Physical Training:- Physical exercise, running, drill , weapon drill.

3.      Common Subject Training: - Theory lecture given by ANO (Sanjeev Sharma) The NCC, National integration and awareness, Civil Affairs, History of NCC, Adventure training and obstacle, Social awareness and Community Development, Personality Development and Leadership, Health and Hygiene

4.      Specialised Subject: - Lectures and theory given by Air force Officers and PI Staff-General Service Knowledge, Air Campaigns, Aero Modelling, Principle of Flight, Parts of Aircarft, Aircraft Particulars, Airfield Layout, RT Procedure


Camps: -

Every year NCC cadets selected and attend at least 1 training camp. Different training camps like CATC( Combined Annual Training Camp)ATC (Annual Training Camp) TSC (Thal sena Camp ), AAC (Army Attachment Camp), VSC(Vayu Sainik Camp) NIC (National Integration Camp) ,RDC (Republic Day Camp), Adventure and Trekking Camps are arranged by Group Head Quarters all over the India


1.        Adventure Activities:

NCC Cadets can do adventures activities like hiking, river crossing, rock climbing, horse riding, parasailing, paragliding, cycling, motorcycling, Vehicle Expedition Rallies and Camel Safari.


2.        YEP (Youth Exchange Programme):

If the NCC Cadet good personality and excellent communication skill he can get selected for YEP where he get an opportunity to visit abroad and communicate with other nations NCC cadets.


3.        Social Activities:

With NCC training cadets also has to do social activities like blood donation, tree plantation, duties during Ganpati Utsav, Elections, Polio Organisation and Traffic Control.


4.        ‘B’ & ‘C’ certificate:

After completion of 2 years and at least 1 camp cadet can appear for ‘B’ Certificate Examination and after completion of 3 years and at least 2 camps cadet can appear for ‘C’ Certificate Examination.


Benefits of NCC :

  1. Vacancies as under are reserved for commission in the Defence Services for the NCC ‘C’ Certificate Holders.

(A)        Army:-  IMA Dehradun. 64 vacancies every year through UPSC and   SSB interview.

            OTA Chennai:- 100 vacancies every year for Short Service Commission (Non Tech) No UPSC exam only SSB interview.

(B) Navy:- 06 Vacancies per course. No UPSC exam only SSB interview. Two year age relaxation for NCC ‘ C’ certificate holders.

( C) Indian Air Force  (I)10 % in all courses including flying training courses. No UPSC exam only SSB interview.

(II) For Other Ranks, Sailors, Airmen 5% to 10% bonus marks awarded for recruitment for NCC ‘A ’ ‘B’ & ‘C’ certificate holders.

2.      Para Military Forces: -  2 to 10 bonus marks awarded for recruitment.

3.       Department of Telecommunication: - Bonus marks awarded for recruitment.

4.       NCC. Civilian Gliding Instructors / Girl Cadet Instructor / Whole Time Lady Officer.

5.       State Government. Preference for State Services and reservation of seats for higher educational studies in certain states.

6.       Industry. Many Industries give preference to NCC ‘C’ cert holders for various jobs.

Presently a major policy change in NCC syllabus gives emphasis on developing leadership traits, communication skills and soft skills in NCC cadets
