OVERVIEW

The Department of Physics is functional since the inception of the university. The academic programs of the department include BSc (Hons.), MSc and PhD in Physics. The department conducts teaching for students of UG and PG programs for basic sciences as well as engineering discipline. The department is also involved in conducting interdisciplinary studies and collaborative research. Material science, functional nanomaterials, atomic physics, nuclear physics, non-linear dynamics, theoretical physics, soft condensed matter and biophysics are the thrust research areas of the department.

KEY FEATURES

  • Contemporary topics like nanotechnology, radiation physics, plasma physics, astrophysics, fusion energy, thin film technology, low temperature physics, renewable energy, energy harvesting and biophysics have been introduced in the UG/PG courses.
  • The department is equipped with state-of-art UG, PG and research laboratories.
  • Workshops, symposia and training sessions are arranged to enable students to learn and interact with scientists and researchers from across the globe.
  • UG/PG courses are designed as per the UGC model curricula to help the students to qualify various national/international competitive exams like GRE/JAM/JEST/NET/GATE.
  • Project based learning and research exposure to UG/PG students in various national/international laboratories.
  • Various scholarship scheme for meritorius and bright students.

FACULTY

‘Towards excellence with diversity”

A student graduating from FoS is ahead of graduates from other institutions in terms of basic theoretical, practical and overall knowledge. The Department of Physics, SBS, Faculty of Science, is the place for scientific research and university-level educational programs (UG/PG/PhD) in the field of pure and applied physics.
