Experiencing the Making of Chandigarh

The School of Architecture & Design, under the Faculty of Science, Technology & Architecture, in collaboration with the Heritage Club, Manipal University Jaipur, organized a one-day educational tour titled “Experiencing the Making of Chandigarh” on 3rd April 2025.
This academically curated visit was aimed at understanding the philosophy, planning, and spatial logic of Chandigarh, India’s first planned city post-independence and a global symbol of modernist urbanism. Designed by Le Corbusier, Chandigarh offers an exceptional case study in architectural form, urban order, and civic expression.
Through structured site visits, expert lectures, and peer interactions, students were introduced to modernist ideals, brutalist aesthetics, sustainable landscape practices, and the lived realities of one of India’s most celebrated urban experiments.
