Department of Biosciences at Manipal University Jaipur (MUJ), established in 2012 and now housed within the School of Physical and Biological Sciences, Faculty of Science, Technology and Architecture, is dedicated to excellence in education, research, and innovation in the life sciences. Department of Biosciences, supported by DST-FIST. The department offers a range of academic programs, including B.Sc. Biotechnology (Honours & Honours with Research), B.Sc. Microbiology (Honours & Honours with Research), B.Sc. (Hons) Biotechnology, B.Sc. (Hons) Microbiology, M.Sc. Biotechnology, M.Sc. Food Science & Technology, and Ph.D. programs, designed in accordance with the NEP 2020 and Choice Based Credit System (CBCS). The curriculum emphasizes a strong foundation in core bioscience concepts along with hands-on laboratory training to meet academic and industry requirements.
The department is actively involved in interdisciplinary research in areas such as molecular biology, microbiology, cancer biology, bioinformatics, nanotechnology, bioprocess engineering, and cell culture technologies etc. It is supported by well-equipped laboratories and externally funded research facilities, fostering a vibrant research environment. Guided by experienced faculty members and strengthened by industry and institutional collaborations. The Department of Biosciences aims to develop skilled professionals and researchers capable of contributing meaningfully to scientific advancement, healthcare, and the biotechnology sector.
To strengthen its research outcomes, the department has established MoUs with several universities, industries, and research institutes. It has secured external funding through competitive research grants from reputed agencies such as DST-FIST, DST-PURSE, DST-SERB (New Delhi), ICMR (New Delhi), DBT (New Delhi), ROCL (Rajasthan), DST-IMPRINT, NMPB (New Delhi), and DST-Rajasthan, among others. The academic programs are thoughtfully structured to include interdisciplinary and value-added courses, with a strong emphasis on employability, entrepreneurship, and skill development of students.

The DST–FIST-supported Department of Biosciences at Manipal University Jaipur houses the Structural Biology/Systems Genomics Laboratory, which focuses on structural biology, computational biology, molecular biophysics, and bioinformatics. The laboratory advances research in infection and immunology, drug discovery, functional biomolecules, cellular toxicology, molecular therapeutics, genome characterization, next-generation sequencing of rare diseases and prostate cancer, and lncRNA–protein interaction analysis using integrated systems bioinformatics approaches.

Additionally, the Cancer Prostate Consortium of India aims to develop a translational diagnostic kit by 2028 to overcome limitations of PSA-based screening.

Dr. Izharul Haq was invited to deliver a talk at the Xth International Conference on Sustainable Energy and Environmental Challenges (XSEEC) 2025 held at IIT Jodhpur in December 2025. His insightful talk on “Circular Economy through Sludge Valorization” emphasized the transformation of waste into valuable resources and showcased sustainable approaches to sludge management.
Dr. Priya Shukla chaired the technical session at the National Seminar, Government College, Betul, Madhya Pradesh. The session encouraged active participation and highlighted the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration in addressing global environmental issues.
Dr. Shatrunjai Giri was invited as a speaker at to give a lecture at Government Nehru PG college, Ashoknagar, Madhya Pradesh. His expert talk “Carp Culture” provided valuable insights into aquaculture practices, emphasizing sustainable fish farming techniques and their relevance to food security and rural livelihoods.
Dr. Atar Singh Kushwah was invited as a speaker at the Recent Advancements in Materials Science and Computational Techniques (RAMSACT 2025) conference held at Manipal University Jaipur in November 2025. His research talk was titled “Microbial Drivers of Cervical Epithelial Injury: Mechanistic Insights into Gardnerella-Induced Inflammation and Chromatin Remodeling.”
Prof. Mousumi Debnath was the session chair and poster competition judge at ICEWSTEAM - 2025 held at Manipal University Jaipur. It was a premier global forum dedicated to advancing gender equity, leadership, and innovation in STEAM fields.

Prof. Mousumi Debnath was invited to give a talk at the International Conference on Nanomaterials in Biology (ICNB 2025) held in February 2025 at the University of Rajasthan. The talk reflected the department’s active role in advancing sustainability and nanobiotechnology research.
Prof. Mousumi Debnath received a £10,000 grant from the Imperial Global Connect Fund. This fund is granted to scientists and researchers who support the development of the regional hubs through seeding high-impact research, education, and innovation.
Prof. Monika Sogani received a £ 4,930 Researcher Collaborations Grant from the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) for her international project, "WASH innovations: Building a Regional Platform for Startups and Partnerships in South Asia." It promoted collaborative research and honors the commitment to build a more equitable and sustainable scientific ecosystem.
