Academic Research and Publishing: A Practical Approach

This research workshop is designed to equip participants with essential skills in academic research, writing, and publication. The session will cover the fundamentals of writing high-impact research papers for Q1 and Q2 journals, ensuring alignment with international publishing standards. Participants will also gain insights into crafting systematic review papers, emphasizing critical analysis and synthesis of existing literature.

In addition to journal publications, the workshop will guide researchers on structuring a manuscript, selecting a publisher, and navigating the peer review process. Furthermore, discussions will extend to research project proposals, covering funding opportunities, proposal drafting, and effective project execution.

Through interactive discussions, case studies, and hands-on exercises, this workshop aims to enhance participants' research acumen and increase their success in academic publishing. Whether aspiring to publish in Scopus or Web of Science-indexed journals, author a book, or secure research funding, this session provides a comprehensive roadmap.

EXPERT SPEAKER

Dr. Arul George Scaria is a professor of law at National Law School of India University (NLSIU), Bengaluru, where he focuses on the intersection of law, technology, and innovation. He is also the DPIIT IPR Chair Professor at NLSIU. Through his teaching and writing, he contributes extensively to the fields of intellectual property (IP), artificial intelligence (AI), data governance, and open science. Prior to his current role, he was an associate professor of law and co-director of the Centre for Innovation, Intellectual Property and Competition (CIIPC) at National Law University, Delhi.

Dr. Scaria has been a lead researcher in different research projects, including an UNESCO funded project on challenges and opportunities for open science in four South Asian countries. His post-doctoral research focused on the issue of open access to large scale research data. He is currently working on different projects at the interface of law, science and technology, including a collaborative multidisciplinary project on algorithmic bias in decision making.

Dr. Arul has two single authored books to his credit - Piracy in the Indian Film Industry: Copyright and Cultural Consonance (Cambridge University Press, 2014) and Ambush Marketing: Game within a Game (Oxford University Press, 2008). He has also contributed to different international journals and books by drawing from his research. He has an extensive body of scholarly work, with 28 publications listed on his ResearchGate profile. His research has garnered over 16,000 reads and 51 citations, reflecting his significant impact in the fields of intellectual property law, competition law, and the intersection of law, science, and technology. Additionally, his Google Scholar profile indicates he has been cited by 109 other works, further underscoring his contributions to legal scholarship.
