Workshop on Network Security

Department of Electronics and Communication, Manipal University JAIPUR organized one day workshop on 'Network Security' on 10th October 2018 for all the B.Tech student.

Event Report

The lecture began with introduction of the speaker and a small brief about Aptron Technologies. We were taught about various types of networks and how they functioned all around the world. We were told about various data centers and how they were useful in data storage for various networks. More information was provided on Google Data Centres as all the students were familiar with Google cloud storage. We were then told about the various harms in networking and social websites which rely totally on networking. The topic was then changed to ISPs that is Internet Service Providers. We were taught about how ISPs are tracked and how different internet providers have different ISPs irrespective of the device they use.

After a short break of about an hour, it was time for some practical knowledge. We were asked to download an application called Cisco Packet Tracer. This application helps us to create networks of our own and also track ISPs. We were taught how to create a safe and secure Local Area Network and how we could implement it in our college laboratories as well. After a thorough explanation of the procedure we were asked to try it out on our own laptops and see if we could do it. After having tried we were asked if we had any doubts regarding the lecture and after clearing the various doubts of students the Guest Lecturer ended the session and we all were very pleased to have learnt something useful as Electronics and Communications Engineering students would have this subject in their curriculum and it would help to have some prerequisite knowledge of network security.
