Dr Ashish Malik has been Awarded

Dr. Ashish Malik, Associate Professor in Automobile Engineering Dept. at Manipal University Jaipur recently won the prestigious #InnovateToINSPIRE 2018 Challenge in the category "Improved Grid Management System" on 11th Nov 2018 held at Hotel Lalit, New Delhi. The prize includes a shield and cash prize of Rs 5 Lakhs.

Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL) and World Resources Institute (WRI) with support from The WORLD BANK conducted the #InnovateToINSPIRE Challenge 2018. India has achieved significant strides both in renewable generation and adopting energy efficiency, However, there are several specific challenges. Renewables provide intermittent electricity access and therefore expose transmission grids to risks of collapse. The #InnovateToINSPIRE Challenge 2018 invited Innovators, inventors, pioneers, entrepreneurs and trailblazers to provide unique and innovative solutions under 4 different categories:

a) EVlution (E- mobility)

b) Improved Grid Management System

c) Energy Efficient Technologies

d) Financial Instruments.

Dr. Ashish Malik and his team competed with 94 teams from all across the world. The challenge took place in 5 stages over a span of 3 months. Innovation in technology, business model, relevance to India and energy efficiency were key parameters for judgement.

MOLIB System

Dr. Malik showcased proof-of-concept of an innovative product Mobile Li-Ion Battery (MOLIB) system, which is a large scale energy storage system based on Lithium-ion technology fitted on vehicle chassis. It will play vital role in multiple domains such as:

1) Support Grid Management through Peak Shaving and Load Levelling

2) Complement the Electric Vehicle charging infrastructure

3) Eliminate Diesel Generator sets as means of power back-up for events, marriages, expositions, etc.

MOLIB is a versatile transportable power solution with nominal power output of 100 KWs for up to 5 Hours, with multiple power output ports for EV charging as per international standards.
