The Department of Hotel Management organized a guest lecture and practical training session titled “Training on Handling Professional Housekeeping Cleaning Equipment (Manual and Mechanical)” on 04-02-2026 to provide students with in-depth knowledge of modern housekeeping operations and cleaning technologies used in the hospitality industry. The session was designed to enhance practical understanding of cleaning procedures, equipment handling, workplace safety, and efficiency standards followed in hotels and commercial establishments.

During the session, students were introduced to a wide range of manual cleaning tools including microfiber cloths, dusters, mops, wringers, buckets, brooms, lobby dustpans, squeegees, scrub pads, brushes, toilet cleaning sets, spray bottles, housekeeping trolleys, feather dusters, glass cleaning tools, and waste segregation bins. Trainers explained the correct usage, maintenance, storage, and area-wise application of each tool for guest rooms, public areas, washrooms, kitchens, and back-of-house spaces.

Students were also given detailed exposure to mechanical and professional cleaning equipment commonly used in hotels, such as vacuum cleaners (upright, canister, wet & dry, backpack), carpet shampooing machines, single disc scrubber machines, floor polishing machines, burnishers, high-pressure jet cleaners, steam cleaners, escalator cleaning machines, ride-on scrubber dryers, automatic floor scrubbers, upholstery cleaning machines, blower machines, and water extraction units. The functioning, attachments, cleaning capacity, and operational benefits of each machine were explained with demonstrations.

Special emphasis was placed on the safe handling of equipment, selection of suitable cleaning agents, preventive maintenance, electrical safety precautions, ergonomic practices, and methods to improve productivity while maintaining hygiene standards. Students also learned how mechanized cleaning reduces labor time, ensures consistency, enhances sanitation, and improves guest satisfaction in hospitality establishments.

The session was highly interactive and practical in nature, enabling students to develop technical competence and confidence in handling professional housekeeping equipment. It proved to be highly beneficial in preparing students for real-time hotel housekeeping operations and industry expectations.
