The Gujarat Mahila Housing SEWA Trust invited the Director of the School of Architecture & Design (SA&D), Manipal University Jaipur (MUJ), to provide technical guidance on affordable housing layouts under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY). In response, a team of faculty members from Manipal University Jaipur undertook a site visit to the Mirasi Samaj community at Lakhesra Village, JDA Colony, Ward No. 33, Jaipur. On Monday, 1st December 2025.

This visit formed part of an outreach initiative focused on developing context-responsive affordable housing solutions for slum areas. The initiative aimed to propose architectural designs that are sensitive to the socio-economic conditions and cultural practices of the Mirasi Samaj community. Based on the community’s specific needs and available plot sizes, a range of modular housing options were developed. Detailed cost estimates for these proposals were also prepared and discussed with community members to ensure economic feasibility and alignment with their expectations.
