Expert Lecture and Hands-on Workshop: The Standing Secret – How Forms Meet Forces

The School of Architecture and Design, Manipal University Jaipur, successfully organized an expert lecture and hands-on workshop titled “The Standing Secret – How Forms Meet Forces” on 14th August 2026. The session was conducted by (Col.) Virendra Kumar Malik, Professor Emeritus & Former Dean, Sushant University, Gurugram.

The full-day session was designed to provide B.Arch. students with a deeper understanding of the relationship between architectural forms and structural forces, and to demonstrate how structural principles influence the conception, development, stability, and performance of architectural forms.

The workshop combined an expert lecture with interactive demonstrations, hands-on structural experiments, model-making activities, group exercises, and discussions. Students from the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd years actively engaged with the activities, enabling them to move beyond theoretical understanding and explore structural behaviour through practical experimentation.

Through the session, students gained insights into concepts such as form, force, stability, structural behaviour, and material response, while also understanding their relevance to architectural design. The interactive nature of the workshop encouraged students to experiment, observe, question, and relate structural concepts to real-world architectural applications.

The programme provided an experiential learning platform that strengthened students’ understanding of structures and encouraged a more integrated approach to architectural design. The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Siddhant Walia, acknowledging the contribution of the resource person and the active participation of the students.
