Venue : SA&D, MUJ @

The School of Architecture & Design, Manipal University Jaipur, organized a one-day expert lecture and workshop titled “From Settlements to Urban Experience: Integrating Planning, Form & People” on 13th April 2026 for B.Arch 6th Semester students. The session was conducted by Dr. Navjit Gaurav, Assistant Professor, Department of Architecture and Planning, IIT Roorkee, whose work focuses on inclusive design, human-centered environments, and community-based planning. The workshop was designed to integrate the courses Theory of Urban Design and Human Settlement Planning, offering students a platform to connect theoretical knowledge with critical inquiry. The session emphasized a shift from conventional solution-driven approaches to a more reflective mode of thinking. Students were encouraged to unlearn preconceived design solutions, question assumptions, and focus on understanding the context before identifying or defining urban issues. This approach highlighted the importance of problem framing, observation, and human-centered analysis in urban design. Through interactive lectures and analytical exercises, students engaged in discussions on urban morphology, settlement evolution, and contemporary urban conditions. The workshop fostered critical thinking and encouraged students to explore the complexity of urban environments beyond immediate design responses.

The event proved to be a thought-provoking academic engagement, enriching students’ perspectives and strengthening their ability to approach urban design with sensitivity, awareness, and analytical depth.
