Introduction of the Event

Department of Mechanical Engineering organised an expert lecture talk by Assistant Professor Dr. Asswani Pratap. This talk was organised for students of Mechanical Engineering. Topic of talk was "Ultra-Precision Manufacturing: It is all about a lump of atoms.".

Objective of the Event

The main objective of this event was to enhance knowledge of students in the domain of manufacturing engineering. Students will be having opportunity to know advancements in production engineering from a professor from Japan.

28 Students of IV Semester of Department of Mechanical Engineering and faculty members of the department.

Profile of the Speaker:

Dr. Ashwani Pratap

Dr. Pratap is currently appointed as specially appointed assistant professor at Keio University, Yokohama, Japan. He is also associated with Zeeko Ltd, United Kingdom in the capacity of process and metrology researcher. Prior to joining Keio University, Dr. Pratap worked as a program-specific researcher at Kyoto University, Japan and as a post-doctoral fellow at IIT Bombay, India. Dr. Pratap earned his Ph.D. from Indian Institute of Technology Patna in year 2020.

Dr. Pratap's primary area of research is on exploring new technologies for ultra-smooth surface finishing of high-end optical surfaces to be used in telescopic mirrors and optical metrology. His current research topics cover digital design and manufacture, multi-scale modelling of fine abrasive processes, and development of hybrid machining systems. With international patents, 25 publications (>15 in peer-reviewed SCI journals), he has an established track-record in ultra-precision manufacturing that was recognized through invited presentation at CIRP general assembly in 2023.
