Committee for Prevention of Sexual Harassment (POSH) at work place, Manipal University Jaipur (MUJ) organized a talk on the joyous occasion on International Women’s Day at the MUJ on March 8th, 2019 at 11 am at the TSB Hall Seminar, Administrative Building. The event was organized under the able guidance of Prof. Sudhi Rajiv, Chairperson (POSH) and Prof. N.D. Mathur presided over the program. Prof. Vidya Jain, Professor of Political Science, University of Rajasthan was the Chief Guest for the event. It was attended by a number of faculty members and students of MUJ.
The program started with lighting of lamp followed by floral welcome of the chief guest. Ms. Kanupriya, student BALLB VIII Semester sang a song celebrating womanhood. Prof. Sudhi Rajiv gave the welcome address and highlighted the need of gender sensitization and ‘Gender-Champion’ badges were given to two students of MUJ- Ms. Mamta (BALLB, VIII Sem.) and Mr. Aryaman Raghuvanshi, (BA English Hons, IV Sem.) for their contribution in gender-sensitization on campus.
Prof. Vidya Jain addressed the gathering on the history of feminism, Gandhi’s philosophy on feminism and the increasing challenges presented to women folk in times of globalization driven capitalism. Her address was followed by a lively Q&A session with the audience.
Prof. N. D, Mathur touched upon the economic dimensions of women empowerment and put emphasis of ‘equity’ rather than equality in the distribution of resources. He pertinently noted that despite all hurdles how women are now breaking glass ceilings and are claiming higher ranks of responsibility. His recital of an inspiring poem resounded the message of, now is the time for women to fly and reach heights.
Prof. Lalita Ladvani, Director, Faculty of Basic Sciences delivered the vote of thanks and concluded the session with the official motto of the United Nation’s 2019 Women’s Day celebration ‘Think Equal, Build Smart, Innovate for Change’. The program was compered by Dr. Sonali Singh, Assistant Professor, Department of Arts, MUJ. The program was followed by a high-tea.
