CREATIVE WRITING: AN INTERACTION WITH A YOUNG WRITER

§  The Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, Manipal University Jaipur organized a Guest Lecture on "Creative Writing" for its students. This session was held by Ms Riya Singh, an author and alumnus of Manipal University Jaipur. The talk was organized by Dr. Prabhat Dixit, Faculty and Alumni coordinator, JMC. The session started with the host -Kartik Dutt Sharma (student of BJMC 1st year) welcoming the Guest Speaker, faculty, and attendees. Dr. Govind Kumar, Faculty, JMC gave a welcome note and invited her to speak.

Ms Riya Singh introduced herself as a social media manager and author of the book - "The Portal between darkness and light". She went on interacting with students regarding how they define Creative writing and creativity. In the same tone and temper, she shared her experiences as a beginner and burgeoning writer. She mentioned that creative writing is an unrestrictive and free form of writing. She shared her initial struggles with language and how she overcame them. She also talked about the stages of writing when writing to get a book or novel together. Ms Riya Singh threw light on various nuances and insights that would benefit the students as budding writers, not only in the field of Journalism but as authors too. 

Towards the end of the session, she also initiated a short Question and Answer round and answered some of the questions. She concluded by reading a passage from her book that inspired the attendees.  The session ended with a Vote of Thanks given by Dr. Manish Sachan, a faculty in the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication.
