The Legal Aid Clinic, Faculty of Law, Manipal University Jaipur (MUJ), organized a Cyber Awareness Session at the Gram Panchayat, Dehmi Kalan, Jaipur, on 15 September 2026, in collaboration with KRS Global Educational Consultancy and Gram Panchayat Dahami Kalan. The session aimed to spread awareness among members of the local community and students regarding cybercrime, cyber safety, digital fraud, and the importance of understanding basic legal safeguards while using technology.
A total of 96 participants attended the session, comprising 26 students of the BA LLB and BBA LLB programmes, Faculty of Law, Manipal University Jaipur, and 70 members of the local community of Dehmi Kalan, including school students and Anganwadi workers.
The programme commenced with the arrival of the dignitaries at 11:00 am, followed by an introduction by Nikita Gomdani and Vartika. The speakers introduced the Legal Aid Clinic and highlighted the importance of legal aid and community-level legal awareness. The dignitaries included Dr. Saumya Uma (Professor and Dean – Faculty of Law, MUJ), Dr. Vijay Laxmi Sharma (Professor – Faculty of Law, MUJ), Shri Giriraj (Junior Assistant of the Sarpanch) and Adv. Rupali Chauhan (advocate and key resource person, General Secretary, KRS Global Educational Consultancy).
Dr. Saumya Uma, in her opening remarks, emphasized the importance of legal awareness as ignorance of the law is no excuse. She also reiterated the contemporary relevance of knowledge, rights awareness, preventive strategies and remedial measures on cybercrimes. Dr. Vijay Laxmi addressed the gathering and observed that students and members of society regularly use mobile phones and receive information about events occurring around them and across the world. She emphasized the need to develop cyber awareness alongside the increasing use of technology.
Adv. Rupali Chauhan conducted an interactive awareness session on cybercrimes. She explained various types of cyber fraud including fraud related to mobile banking, QR code, UPI transactions, ATM PIN, OTP, identity theft of Aadhaar card, PAN card and voter identity card, fraudulent “cyber arrest” and extortion of money, among other means. She emphasized that strategies for such fraudulent activities involve either threats or incentives or both, and explained the preventive and remedial measures that need to be undertaken to protect ourselves and our family members from cybercrimes.
The participants were advised not to upload or disclose private information on unauthorized platforms. They were specifically cautioned against sharing bank account details, Aadhaar and PAN details, photographs, personal documents, ATM or card details, OTPs and UPI PINs.
The programme also introduced the Legal Aid Clinic and explained how it can assist individuals in obtaining legal information and guidance when they face legal difficulties. The Clinic’s engagement and collaboration with the District Legal Services Authority and the High Court were also highlighted.
The session concluded with an appeal to the students and community members to share accurate cyber-safety information and help create greater awareness about cybercrime. The organizers reiterated Manipal University Jaipur’s commitment to supporting the community through legal awareness and outreach initiatives.
Overall, this programme of the Legal Aid Clinic, Faculty of Law, made a small but substantial contribution towards creating awareness about cybercrimes among the underprivileged communities in and around Manipal University, Jaipur.
