Program Details - Master of Science - Clinical Psychology

Overview

The Department of Psychology in the School of Humanities and Social Sciences under the Faculty of Arts & Law will offer the programme in M.Sc. Clinical Psychology. It is a two-year programme spread across four semesters and is based on the scientist- practitioner model of clinical psychology. It will be a professional degree, which will equip the students in the area of psychological assessment and therapeutic counselling. The focus of the programme will be on providing intensive hands-on clinical training as well as thorough theoretical foundation in the field of clinical psychology. The curriculum has been designed to give vocational training to the students in the area of psychological assessment and counselling. Besides they will also be trained in carrying out research and data analysis.

OBJECTIVES

The objective of the MSc. Clinical Psychology program is to make the students competent in psychological research and be familiar about the scientific bases of clinical psychology applications, such as clinical assessment and psychological interventions. The specific objectives shall be: 

  • It will emphasize on applying the relevant theory and research to clinical practice in mental health.
  • It will aim to develop a foundation in counselling and cognitive behavioural skills.
  • The dissertation will give them a chance to deepen their knowledge in a specific area of interest.
  • The internship will give the students hands on experience in the field.

KEY FEATURES

  • The students will develop competence in teaching, clinical supervision, and consultation skills
  • They will be trained in psychological assessment and intervention skills
  • They will demonstrate competence in interpersonal skills and sensitivity in working with culturally diverse populations.
  • They can also go for higher studies in Clinical /Counselling/Rehabilitation Psychology. 
  • Those who wish to do counselling and psychological assessment will have advantage over the other students due to the experiential and training focused curriculum of the programme. 
  • They can also find employment in government and private sector organisations. 
  • They students can find employment in private practice clinics, schools, hospitals, nursing homes and other health care facilities.

Entrance test-2019

Eligibility for MSc Clinical Psychology: Any candidate with a Bachelor degree from a UGC /AIU recognized University with 50% aggregate marks with psychology or any related course (Child psychology, psychiatry, educational psychology, counselling, psychotherapy, etc.) as one of the papers in the qualifying degree is eligible.

 

Admission Criteria: Admissions are done on the basis of marks obtained in the qualifying examination (MUJ written entrance test and personal interview-PI)

 

Tentative entrance exam date:  Will be announced shortly 

 

Entrance test: The test will consist of 50 MCQs with no negative marking. The duration will of the test will be 1 hour.

 

Entrance syllabus: Questions will be based on under-graduate level psychology including the following topics:

Perception and attention, learning, memory, thinking and problem solving, intelligence personality, abnormal psychology, social psychology, biological basis of behaviour, motivation and emotions.

 

 The entrance exam will be followed by Personal Interview on the same day.
