Liberal Arts is a multidisciplinary system of education that includes a diverse mix of subjects from various disciplines from humanities, sciences, design, journalism and management. It aims to provide a learning experience that empowers students to deal with change, diversity and complexity, to make them problem solvers, critical thinkers and responsible members of the society. Liberal Arts as a stream produces critical thinkers, who have the confidence and flexibility to adapt themselves to the blend of multidisciplinary courses continually learn new skills.
Manipal University Jaipur is the first University in Rajasthan to offer Liberal Arts degree. The B.A. (Liberal Arts) programme at Manipal University Jaipur --is a three year undergraduate, interdisciplinary programme geared towards creating holistic individuals capable of actively contributing to society through their chosen field of interest. The semesters are thematically driven such that across subjects students are studying common themes. The Program is a rich blend of plethora of subjects giving them the choice to choose subjects of their interest. The course architecture gives further details of the curriculum. Classroom teaching is complemented with field projects and study tours. The courses are compiled in such a way that the learning & skills included will lead them towards employability.
The undergraduate Liberal Arts Degree at Manipal University Jaipur offers a curriculum with varied subjects in Social Sciences and Humanities. It follows the suggestions of New Education Policy of the Government of India, offering a multidisciplinary course. Students are offered six courses in three core disciplines of Political Science, Philosophy or Psychology and if they chose to do so, six more subject specific electives such as sociology or journalism, etc can be chosen. Indian Classical Music, Yoga, Language training, computer foundations are some other courses that add to competencies and skills of the students.
A liberal arts degree will help you explore to the general field of Humanities and Social sciences at a foundation level, so you can make an informed choice about your future after this. One can check out what one’s talents and competencies are before narrowing down to a discipline after your degree. This helps to adapt to newer careers that may arise in a fast-changing world. Employers look for candidates who are adaptable and can fulfil multiple roles and functions across the organisation and can provide innovation. The rapidly changing world is opening up to new careers that were not even heard of five years ago: A social celebrity manager, a fun and entertainment officer for a corporate company, a blog aesthetics designer, online course content writer. There may be some new kinds of future jobs required for which we need a work force with a broad-based set of skills who have the ability to think and learn on the job. Increasingly, liberal arts degrees are looking to fulfil that requirement.
Internships for liberal arts students are experiences that bridge the gap between classroom ad a career. Our students intern with publishing companies, educational trusts and programs, business and commercial enterprises as well as with volunteer organizations such as NGOs and CSR trusts. Our team of faculty and university encourage students to pursue their interests and expand their skills to work in real world situations. Some of our recent students interned at a handicraft’s organisation, a magazine publication, an educational institution and a foundation trust. In our recent batch 95% of our students completed internships successfully.
After completing a bachelor’s degree in Liberal Arts, you can either continue higher studies and enrol for a Master’s degree or for an integrated Master’s and Ph.D. program. You also have the option to go abroad for higher studies as universities abroad recognise the uniqueness of a liberal arts degree.
Political science: careers in this field include law, public policy, politics, business, and working for NGOs and charities.
Philosophy: Academia, Medical ethics, book publishing industry, NGO, Education, and writing
Psychology and Sociology: research analysis (combining statistics and psychology), and social services (such as counselling or therapy) NGO sector and CSR social work.
Public and governance: Civil services such as UPSC or IAS, Law enforcement, armed forces, international relations
Other career paths: business (public relations, Marketing and management entrepreneur, store manager, salesperson), event planning, environment (conservation, public policy), law
Media ad PR: Journalism, content writing and advertising, Event Planning, and social media management
Culture industry: television ad cultural media, art and aesthetics, Curotorial practices, music and art industry, handicraft, independent business
