Art is that by which we “art”iculate our lives. The Department of Arts, consisting of Philosophy, Physical Education, Liberal Arts, Political Science and Sociology seeks to enhance and effect this articulation in unique and creative ways through its specially designed programs. 

 

 

PHILOSOPHY

OVERVIEW

Humans have the privilege of walking on earth under the sky. Philosophy, as not only “love of wisdom,” but also “wisdom of love,” endeavors to assist the humans to participate in this walk integrally, lovingly and joyfully. The department of Philosophy strives to provide a much needed interdisciplinary and intercultural orientation in this journey.

 

KEY FEATURES

Through this program students will:

  • Learn the art of philosophizing and acquaint themselves in different areas and issues of Philosophy
  • Be rigorously trained in logic and critical thinking, clear argumentative writing, careful reading and analyzing texts, and oral argument
  • Gain skills in interdisciplinary and intercultural thinking in the context of contemporary monomorphic technological world-view
  • Learn to apply the above skills towards an enlightened, loving and healing involvement with the self, nature and society

POLITICAL SCIENCE

OVERVIEW

Political Science is the study of the Government, polity and the State using scientific methods. It is, thereby, a study of political activity and behaviour.

 

KEY FEATURES

  • Imparting knowledge about the subject matter of Political Science in a way that builds the analytical capacity of the student to understand political activity around him/her and understand the relevance of the subject.
  • Teaching the students the importance of the interdisciplinary approach in understanding a subject. Thus, making the student understand the importance of connections between streams such as History, Economics, Philosophy and even Biology to certain concepts of Political Science. 
  • A subset, ‘International Relations’ is dealt with in detail, that involves its own dynamics.

Sociology is the study of human society, which gives a deep insight into the working of social institutions, social relations and human behavior at large.
