The inaugural function of a National conference on Advancement in Materials Science and Physics (NCAMP-2018) took place on November 19, 2018 at Manipal University Jaipur (MUJ). The theme of the conference was introduced by the convener Dr. Pushpendra Kumar. Prof. Lalita Ledwani, Director School of Basic Sciences, threw light upon the evolution of school of basic sciences at MUJ. The Dean, Research and Innovation Dr. Ravishankar Kamath told that interdisciplinarity is essential in today’s science and technology. He also referred to Atal Incubation centre to be opened at MUJ. The Pro-president Prof. N N Sharma, talking about materials research said that it can be classified into two categories; one is scientific and the other is philosophical. He also gave an example of samudra-manthan that produced some materials out of which some were beneficial and some were toxic. He cautioned that we should be doing such materials research which is capable of producing materials of positive impact. The Chief Guest of the program Prof. M. Jagdish Kumar, Vice Chancellor, Jawahar Lal Nehru University, New Delhi, in his keynote speech emphasized on recognizing your own potential. He quoted Aadiguru Shankaracharya that for becoming a good learner Pathanam (study), Mananam (memorizing), Chintanam (critical thinking) and Sankeertanam (repeating). During the program Souvenir of the conference was also released. In this two days conference many experts and scientists from various institutions will take part. Dean, Faculty of Science (FoS), Prof. Awdhesh Kumar and other dignitaries of the university were also present during the function.
On the same day six invited talks were delivered by eminent researchers like Prof. Prem Pal, IIT Hyderabad, Dr. Saket Asthana, IIT Hyderabad, Prof. Girish Setlur, IIT Guwahati, Prof. M G H Zaidi, G. B. Pant University, Dr. Rahul Singhal, MNIT Jaipur and Dr. Atul Grover, DRDO Lab Haldwani. Also the research scholars from various institutions gave oral presentation on their research work. There were two industrial talks by Dr. R P Joshi, from RI Instruments and Mr. K Raghunath Rao from Tektronix India Pvt Ltd respectively.
The second day keynote speech was delivered by Prof. H S Dhami, Vice Chancellor, Kumaun University, followed by the invited talks of Prof S K Pal, SNBNCBS, Kolkata and Dr. Anil Kumar, Hindu College, Moradabad. Second day again several oral and poster presentations were by the different researchers and scholars.
During the valedictory session Dean R &I Prof. Ravishankar Kamath along with Dean FoS, Prof Awdesh Kumar motivated the participants by words of wishes. The best poster and oral presenters were given the cash prize in the valedictory session.
