About the speaker: 

Emeritus Professor Chun Che Lance Fung was trained and worked as a Marine Radio and Electronic Officer in Hong Kong during the 70’s. He graduated with a B.Sc. Degree with First Class Honours and a M.Eng. Degree from the University of Wales, UWIST. His PhD Degree was awarded by the University of Western Australia, with a thesis on Artificial Intelligence and Power System Engineering. He has taught at Singapore Polytechnic, Curtin University, and, Murdoch University where he was appointed Emeritus Professor in 2015. His roles have included Associate Dean of Research, Postgraduate Research Director and Director of the Centre for Enterprise Collaborative in Innovative Systems. He has supervised to completion over 31 doctoral students and published over 333 academic articles. His contributions can be viewed at IEEE Xplore, ResearchGate, Google Scholar… etc. Lance has been a dedicated volunteer for the IEEE for over 25 years in various positions in the Chapter, WA Section, Australia Council and the Region 10 Executive Committee. Lance continues his research and supervision of postgraduate students and his motto is “Learning has no Boundary”. Title of the Talk: Considerations for Research and Grant Proposals

 

Abstract of the Talk: Students, researchers and academics are expected to write research projects and grant proposals in the course of their study or work. In addition to the guidelines and instructions, there are elements that may determine the success or failure of a proposal. In this talk, Professor Chun Che Lance Fung will share his many years of experience from being a reviewer of grant applications, postgraduate research supervisor, director of a research centre, Associate School Dean of Research, on the issues related to research and grant proposals. As Past Chair of the IEEE New Initiative Committee, he involves in decisions on funding requests range from a few thousands to over a million dollars. He will discuss what do the readers and decision makers look for in the proposals and the process involved.
