PROGRAM DETAILS - B Tech (Hons) Mechanical Engineering with Specialization in Robotics

 

OVERVIEW

 

Four years B. Tech program with specialization in Robotics provides an opportunity for students to learn and implement the ensemble of mechanical engineering and robotics. The program also helps undergraduate students to practice the principles of robotics through hands on experience. The Bachelors program in Mechanical Engineering with specialization in Robotics has been designed in such a way that it meets the global standards and is at par to the similar courses offered in other national and international universities of repute. The specialization will play an important role in providing students with high-level skills that to design and control robots for use in industrial, medical, social, and distinct applications. MUJ has dedicated faculty and staff to help students in conducting ground breaking research and provide hands-on work with robotic devices. Besides, MUJ provides an open and collaborative atmosphere to help students, researchers, faculty members, and staff to share ideas to work towards the societal benefits. The teaching-learning process ranges from interactive sessions, discussions, workshops, hands-on practice and presentations. Educationists, scholars, and resource persons from industry are invited for interactive sessions/ lectures to motivate and guide the students.

OBJECTIVES

B. Tech. (Chemical Engineering) with specialization in Computer Aided Process Engineering (CAPE) will provide better and wider opportunities to work on the advancement and automation in process industries.

The course offers a specialization in computer applications (Digital Twin, Artificial Intelligence, Data science, and others) to the students of Chemical Engineering. It enriches a graduate-level Chemical Engineering student with designing, applications, and advancement of Process Industries. The goals are aligned with the goals of Make in India and Industry 4.0. initiatives of GoI thereby encouraging not only the professional skills but will also encourage entrepreneurship among the students of Chemical Engineering.

 

Scope

With the current focus on the above GoI initiatives and automation in almost every sector, application of Artificial Intelligence, data science and Digital Twin techniques in process industries are highly encouraged.

Industries, these days, demand a specialization in a particular field besides the fundamental knowledge. A specialization in CAPE will benefit the industries in a long term and is being considered the technology of future. Chemical Engineering student with specialization in CAPE fulfills the requirement of industry and can significantly enhance the productivity. It therefore, will create high employment opportunities in process industries be it in chemical manufacturing, oil and gas, environment, pharmaceuticals, food processing, biotechnology, and research and consultancy.

                             

Motivation

In core disciplines of Engineering (Chemical, Electrical, Civil, and Mechanical Engineering), apart from the fundamental knowledge, additional skills are required to meet the expectations of industry and society. To serve the society better quality and safe products, focus is now on upgradation and automation of existing processes. The current focus on computer applications especially Artificial intelligence, data science and digital twin technology may strengthen and create better opportunities for the graduates of Chemical Engineering.

USP OF THE COURSE

 

The overall mission of B.Tech. Mechanical Engineering Specialization in Robotics programme at Manipal University Jaipur, is to provide quality education to the students. Through qualified teaching professionals, the Department of Mechanical aims to achieve the following objectives:

(a) Robotics will enable students to serve the society to automate their operations by implementing smart technologies.

(b) The extended enthusiasm of current industry for improved efficiency and safety has led to a bigger need for skilled professionals in the vast field of ‘Robotics’.

(c) This specialization enriches a graduate level student of Mechanical Engineering with designing, manufacturing, applications, and operations of robots. Students’ understanding of the analytical ability of robotics will be enriched by using different tools to analyse, planning and control of motions of the robot and writing programs using robotics programming software.

(d) Students will learn various cross-platforms to program real life robots used as industrial robot manipulators and mobile robots

Career Opportunities

Robotics Engineering is considered a high-end professional career in India. There are tremendous job opportunities awaiting a candidate who has professional training in Robotics engineering. A Robotic engineer can be employed in manufacturing plants, laboratories, medical fields, mining, automation sector, life sciences, aerospace engineering, agricultural engineering, etc. There is a great demand for robotic engineers in the gaming industry and manufacturing units as well. If the candidate has good merit records, then they can find themselves in top profiles in research organizations such as ISRO and NASA.

ELIGIBILITY

The candidate must have passed 10+2 or A Level or IB or American 12th grade or equivalent examination with Physics, Mathematics and English as Compulsory subjects, along with any one of Chemistry or Computer Science or Biotechnology or Biology or Statistics or Engineering Drawing as optional subject for admission to B Tech, with minimum of 50% marks in Physics, Mathematics and the optional subject, put together.
