Geoinformatics is an inter-disciplinary program that develops expertise in the application of geospatial technologies for most pressing real-world challenges in environmental, earth sciences, social, and economic domains. The core strength of the program lies in its innovative curriculum that imbues present and future professionals on the current know-how on development issues to address real-life problems. It introduces, basics of remote sensing and computerized GIS database management system to civil engineering students, with subsequent strengthening with professional exposure. The focus is on transforming geospatial data into relevant end user information through acquisition, processing, characterization, analysis and modelling to understand geographic patterns, processes, and relationships ranging from macro to the global scales.
The course would essentially help students to process, analyse and examine the complex geographic data. Further, prospective students will be well versed with application of GIS tools to the civil engineering problems in innovative ways. Hence, students would be professionally qualified enough to make use of the GIS platform to provide solutions as per the needs of academic institutions, organizations as well as industrial sectors using geospatial technologies in their respective activities.
This course is introduced with a view to attain following enumerated objectives.
· To introduce the basics of remote sensing and GIS computerized database management system to Civil Engineering students
· To develop expertise in the application of geospatial technologies in civil engineering and related domains.
Through facilitating quality education to students at Manipal University Jaipur, the overall mission of the program is to develop & transform, students into GIS-skilled professional civil engineers. Furthermore, the course would enhance the job prospects of students in both government and non-government organisations significantly within the country as well as globally considering the huge demand of this specialised expertise in civil and non-civil engineering sectors those apply geospatial technology in their respective domain. Such a strong emphasis on the upcoming technologies in the field along with the theoretical and practical understanding of different domains equips the students to match-up their skills to the growing demands in the industry of Geo-Spatial Technology.
Specialization in Geoinformatics has vast job opportunities. Key recruiters are many and are not restricted to professional domains such as Earth Sciences problems with sustainable solutions, Urban and Regional Development and Planning; Green spaces, Utilities, Management; Natural Resource Management; Transport & Mass Transit System, Wildlife Conservation and Management; Risk Assessment and Disaster Management, Meteorology, Weather Forecasting and Monitoring, Natural Resources, Environmental Mapping and Management, Census Monitoring, Water Resource, Machine Learning related to GIS and Remote Sensing, Maritime logistics, and several other applications.
The students at Manipal University Jaipur have ample opportunities to participate in various curricular, co-curricular, and extra-curricular activities all-round the year. The academic process is completely automated with an Academic Management System in place.
