B Tech (Hons) Chemical Engineering with Specialization in Computer Aided Process Engineering
Computer Aided Process Engineering (CAPE) is an interdisciplinary course which has a recently gained a deal of commercial interest particularly in dealing with chemical process models that are useful in different fronts of chemical engineering such as research, design and optimization, Plant control and operations. Besides the fundamental knowledge of Chemical Engineering, this course will impart advanced computational and chemical engineering skills. The department has expert faculty members and if required may seek the support from the experts of Computer Science.
B. Tech. (Chemical Engineering) with specialization in Computer Aided Process Engineering (CAPE) will provide better and wider opportunities to work on the advancement and automation in process industries.
The course offers a specialization in computer applications (Digital Twin, Artificial Intelligence, Data science, and others) to the students of Chemical Engineering. It enriches a graduate-level Chemical Engineering student with designing, applications, and advancement of Process Industries. The goals are aligned with the goals of Make in India and Industry 4.0. initiatives of GoI thereby encouraging not only the professional skills but will also encourage entrepreneurship among the students of Chemical Engineering.
With the current focus on the above GoI initiatives and automation in almost every sector, application of Artificial Intelligence, data science and Digital Twin techniques in process industries are highly encouraged.
Industries, these days, demand a specialization in a particular field besides the fundamental knowledge. A specialization in CAPE will benefit the industries in a long term and is being considered the technology of future. Chemical Engineering student with specialization in CAPE fulfills the requirement of industry and can significantly enhance the productivity. It therefore, will create high employment opportunities in process industries be it in chemical manufacturing, oil and gas, environment, pharmaceuticals, food processing, biotechnology, and research and consultancy.
In core disciplines of Engineering (Chemical, Electrical, Civil, and Mechanical Engineering), apart from the fundamental knowledge, additional skills are required to meet the expectations of industry and society. To serve the society better quality and safe products, focus is now on upgradation and automation of existing processes. The current focus on computer applications especially Artificial intelligence, data science and digital twin technology may strengthen and create better opportunities for the graduates of Chemical Engineering.
Process Digital Twin: A student will approach a more insightful and adaptive model of the process as compared to the conventional simulation model.
Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Soft Computing: Students will use the concepts of AI and Soft computing for the advance automation of process industries.
Data Science: With these concepts student may effectively analyze and resolve the problems related to the process industries.

The candidate must have passed 10+2 or A Level or IB or American 12th grade or equivalent examination with Physics, Mathematics and English as Compulsory subjects, along with any one of Chemistry or Computer Science or Biotechnology or Biology or Statistics or Engineering Drawing as optional subject for admission to B Tech, with minimum of 50% marks in Physics, Mathematics, and the optional subject, put together.
