Dr. Anuradha Chatterjee, has a 5-year Diploma in Architecture from TVB School of Habitat Studies, New Delhi; M. Arch, and PhD in Architecture, University of New South Wales. She is a registered Architect in India.
For close to two decades, she has taught at and has held leadership positions in premier higher education institutions in Australia (University of New South Wales, University of Sydney, University of Technology Sydney, University of Tasmania, and University of South Australia); China (Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University); and India (Sushant School of Art and Architecture, Srishti Institute of Art Design and Technology, and Pearl Academy). Prior to joining Manipal University Jaipur, she was the first Dean Academics at Avani Institute of Design, where she was responsible for establishing establishing culture and systems for academic excellence.
She is one of the few academicians in India to be appointed as a Member of Board of Review for CEPT University’s M Arch / MA in Architectural History and Theory Programme along with some of the top industry practitioners in the country. She has supervised PhD students at University of New South Wales, Xi’an Jiatong-Liverpool University, and Srishti Institute of Art Design and Technology. Dr Chatterjee has worked alongside two prominent Pritzker Prize winners–as Studio Coordinator with Professor Glenn Murcutt at the University of New South Wales (2009, 2010), and as Dean Academics at Avani Institute of Design with Prof BV Doshi for reinventing architectural education, during the two day inter-institutional conclave at Millowners Building (August 2019).
Dr. Anuradha is passionate in reinventing architectural education and one of the few academicians who have a strong presence in the architecture industry in India, through her regular participation as an invited speaker at the Women in Architecture and Design Asia conferences in Delhi.
She has an active research track record. She has authored close to 80 publications of all kinds, of which 3 major publications are books with academic presses and excellent achievements and supports by prestigious research grants such as from Stones of Venice Grant, Ruskin Library, Lancaster University etc. She is the Area Editor for Asia for the prestigious publication Bloomsbury Global Encyclopedia of Women in Architecture 1960-2015 with over 20 countries and the only Indian architect to be elected as a Companion to The Guild of St George, UK, and many such accolades.
As Dean, Dr Chatterjee is interested in mentoring the next generation of educational leaders to deliver high quality education with a focus on technical excellence, critical thinking and scholarship, and social relevance and change. She is also interested in digital paradigms in education but is equally keen to see non dogmatic, and embodied approaches to online (design) education. Dr Chatterjee is interested in exploring and sustaining collaborations between the academy and the industry that are dialogical and critical. She is keen to see research in academia have a stronger resonance in the classroom, and in informing pedagogy at large.
